About Us

OUR SERVICES

Dental Sealants

Tooth decay often begins on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.  These surfaces have pits and grooves that trap plaque, bacteria, and bits of food.  The pits and grooves are hard to keep clean, because toothbrush bristles can not reach into them.  That is how decay starts in the pits and grooves and cavities form.  To keep decay from starting here, we may recommend dental sealants for your child.

Composite Filling

We use composite fillings to fill in the decayed area of a tooth.  Dental composites, also called a “resin”, is a tooth colored material that’s used to fill cavities. These fillings have the same color as the tooth, so it looks very natural and attractive. Composites have replaced amalgam or "silver" fillings which used to be the only option to fill cavities. With proper care, composite fillings can last for up to 10 years.  We do not do any amalgam fillings in our office.

Nitrous Oxide Gas

While many children are capable of sitting through a dental procedure, some struggle with anxiety, over excitement, or special needs that can make this difficult.  We offer nitrous oxide gas (laughing gas) as a way to help your child feel relaxed and at ease as we improve their smile's health.  It is a safe and effective sedative agent to calm your child's fears.

Pulpotomy

When a child has a toothache, we may use a technique known as pulpotomy to remove the infected tissue before replacing it with a medicated filling.  Pulppotomy or pulp theraphy is often referred as "baby root canal".  Pulp of the tooth is the "nerve" of the tooth.

The diseased pulp tissue is completely removed from both the crown and root. The canals are cleansed, medicated and in the case of primary teeth, filled with a resorbable material. Then a final restoration, usually a stainless steel crown, is placed.  During these restorative procedures, nitrous oxide is used and we will do all we can to make your child's experience as painless as possible.

Stainless Steel Crown

Stainless steel crowns are another alternative to tooth extraction for severely decayed teeth.  These strong metal caps cover the entire tooth and are hard to lose or damage.  These are made from a mix of several safe metals and are extremely durable.  They keep a space in your child's mouth for a permanent tooth and will fall out naturally when the baby tooth falls out.  With proper care, stainless steel crowns can last four years or more.  This option is used when saving the tooth is a primary concern.

Advanced Technology

Instead of capturing x-ray on traditional film, our practice is equipped with digital radiography.  Our system quickly captures detailed x-rays of your child's growing smile, instantly transferring them to our computer system for viewing.  Also, our office is equipped with flat screen TVs in each treatment room so your child can watch their favorite movie during procedure or cleaning.
